在英语中，介词后面并非必须加“the”。例如，在一些固定词组中，如“at home/school”“at noon/night”“in surprise”“on duty/business/fire/sale/holiday”等，介词后面就不加“the”。另外，如果介词后面接的不是名词，比如接副词（near here）、代词（look at me）、数词（in 2011）、从句（I am thinking about whether I'll go or not.），也一定不加“the”。但在特指的情况下，介词后面通常加“the”。
